An Introduction
Ayurveda since ages has been serving the mankind as an advanced
medical science or physical, mental and spiritual well being.
In Ayurveda the emphasis is given to an individual as a whole and
not to some disease or symptoms. The goal of the treatment
followed in this regard is to impart perfect harmony to the inner
physiology of person with the outside world in terms of physical
as well as mental well being.
Panchkarma procedure plays a very important role
for this purpose. The main objective of Maharishi Ayurveda
Panchkarma is to make the body stress and disease free and enhance
longevity and vitality by eliminating the harmful products of pathological
states inside the body. This can be done even before the pathology
manifests itself as a disease (i.e. in a healthy person) and after
the disease or illness has produced its signs and symptoms.
Panchkarma symbolically means a group of five karma's
as it is said in the ancient Ayurvedic literature. They are :-
- Vaman (elimination of toxins through mouth)
- Virechan (elimination of toxins via passage of stools)
- Anuvasan (medicated oil based enema)
- Aasthapan (detoxifying enema)
- Shirovirek (detoxification of throat, nose and head)
These five are only the basic treatments, but "Panchkarma"
actually involves numerous procedures, which are disease specific,
individual specific, climate specific, drug specific and even organ
specific. Every patient is given a different set of procedures
according to his or her body make up, stamina, age, disease, severity
of the disease and power of digestion.
Maharishi Ayurveda provides the Panchkarma
procedures matching the highest standards stated in Ayurveda. |
